Maurine Kendrick

August 25, 1923 — October 23, 2020

Maurine Plunket Kendrick, 95, passed away on Tuesday, October 23 in Franklin, TN, where she lived for the past two years. She was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, James Lanier Kendrick, who passed away ten years prior in Haynesville, LA. Maurine was born the second of nine children on August 25, 1923 in Homer, LA to Joe and Alma Plunket. They grew up during the depression in the oil fields in Homer and Maurine worked hard to help her mother with the younger children. She went to Northwestern U in Natchitoches, LA where she majored in business. Then she moved with the family to Baton Rouge where she worked in the control room at radio station WJBO. She married Lanier Kendrick in 1947 and made her home with him in Haynesville, then moved to Pensacola, FL where they raised their 3 children. They moved back to Haynesville in 1981 to care for her father-in-law. Maurine enjoyed yard work, cleaning, helping others, playing games with friends, teaching bible class, and visiting the sick. Wherever she saw a need she tried to meet it, and was always ready to visit and comfort the sick. She is cherished and will be missed by her daughters Karen Kendrick Anderson (David), Keitha Kendrick Haynes (David), and son Kerry Kendrick (Julia), 8 grandchildren: Terry Haynes Williams (Shannon), Melissa Haynes Perry (Matt), Brad Haynes, Kerri Anderson Smith (Brian), Kristi Anderson White (Jake), Kevin Anderson (Jessica), Kory Anderson (Hanna), Katherine Anne Kendrick, and 17 great-grandchildren. She is survived by 3 brothers: Bob, Mack (Terry), Jay (Connie) and preceded in death by brothers Lamar, Bill, George, and sisters Yvonne Parker and Mary Heffernan. A memorial service will be held to honor her memory on Saturday, November 3 at 11am at the Moultrie Road Church of Christ in Thomasville, GA 31792.
