Janice Hamelburg

April 24, 1970 — April 9, 2023

Janice Bernadette Ernst Hamelburg, 52 years old, passed away on April 9, 2023.  Janice was diagnosed in December 2022 with stage 4 cervical and lung small cell cancer.  After a fierce and valiant battle, Janice entered Alive Hospice and passed away peacefully on Easter Sunday with her husband, Michael, by her side.

Janice was born on April 24, 1970, in South Ozone Park, Queens, New York.  The only daughter of George and Bernadette Ernst, Janice lost her father at the tender age of 2 years old.  Raised soley by her mother, Janice attended Our Lady of Perpetual Help grammar school in South Ozone Park, New York, and graduated with honors from Dominican Commercial High School in 1988.  Janice went on to study communication sciences and disorders at Marymount Manhattan college in Manhattan, New York where she was also involved in the student government and yearbook.

Janice met the love of her life, Michael Scott Hamelburg, while visiting a record shop on Long Island, New York, owned by a mutual friend. It was love at first sight for both Janice and Michael.  Janice married Michael S Hamelburg on April 10, 1999 at Our Lady of Perpetual Help church in South Ozone Park, Queens, New York.  After only a few vacations to Tennessee, Janice and Michael chose to move permanently and settle in Mt Juliet, Tennessee in 2006. At this time, Janice strongly desired to expand her family.  In 2006, Janice and Michael were blessed with twin sons, Michael and George, on January 9, 2012, who were the joy of her life.  Janice was a loving and devoted mom to “the boys”. She loved attending the boys sporting events and school activities.

Janice held various types of employment, from office administrative assistant work and human resources coordinator, a certified REFIT instructor and mystery shopper for Strategic Reflections, to a corporate recruiter at Wellpath and Pace Analytical labs. Her most recent and favorite job was working with children as a substitute teacher for the Wilson County School District.

Janice loved interacting with all kinds of people.  She frequently attended concerts, county and state fairs, festivals and outdoor events with Michael and the boys.  Janice loved listening to music and dancing, especially ballroom dancing.  She enjoyed taking photographs and even assisted a friend with wedding photography.

Janice was very involved in her Catholic Community of St Stephens, holding a position on the parish council, membership in the Knights of Columbus Ladies Auxiliary, and volunteering as an Extraordinary Minister of the Eucharist.  Janice was also involved in many activities and groups within the parish, including Walking with Purpose and Thursday lunches.  Janice especially loved welcoming new parishioners into the Catholic Community.

A memorial Mass will be celebrated at 10:00A.M. on Saturday, April 15, 2023 at St Stephen Catholic Community church at 14544 Lebanon Rd, Old Hickory, Tennessee 37138.
