Dixon Gillespie

d. November 14, 2018

Dixon Davis Gillespie, age 76, went to be with his Lord on November 14, 2018 at his family farm in Mt. Juliet, TN after a long struggle with Alzheimer's. He worked at Lifeway Christian Ministries for 37 years then served in the capacity of Executive Pastor at Immanuel Baptist Church. He was ordained as a Lifetime Deacon at Gladeville Baptist Church after serving in many leadership roles as a church member. His influence on family and community members has left a lasting impact on many lives. Dick had several hobbies that he enjoyed when he wasn't working or volunteering. He was an avid runner. He loved taking care of the family farm and raising cattle. He instilled many positive qualities into his children and grandchildren including a strong work ethic, Godly attitude, generosity, honesty, trustworthiness and above all else being a peacemaker. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Judy. Children: Kimberly Clemmons, Cathy (Chuck) York. Grandchildren: Joshua (Kimmy) Williams, Nicole (Ross) Strong, Jacob York, Cayleigh York. Great grandchildren: Addison and Clayton Strong. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and over all genuinely happy and caring man. Dick and Judy's marriage was a perfect example of the promises made in the beginning, for better, for worse, for richer, for poorer, in sickness and in health, to love and to cherish. She will forever be his only sunshine. A special thank you to Lynn Debow, Caregiver, Bob Watson, Family Friend and Bobby Crook, caring supporter who never forgot the man he was. Visitation will be at Gladeville Baptist Church on Saturday, November 17 10:00-1:00 followed by a graveside service where he will be buried on the family farm. The family extends their gratitude to those who never forgot Dick while he "fought the good fight, finished the race and kept the faith." In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Association and Kindred Hospice.
